Garden party will celebrate The Hobbit's 75th anniversary

September 21 is the 75th anniversary of the publication of JRR Tolkien's classic story The Hobbit - and to celebrate, Fulham Palace's garden is being transformed into the magical world of The Shire and holding a Middle Earth style party the following day, September 22.

The party, naturally, will include a Second Breakfast along with a reading from the book.

Publishers Harper Collins are inviting children and their families to apply to join the celebrations by registering at Hobbit Day London.

Successful entrants will be sent their invitations nearer the time.

Hobbit Day London is part of two days of fun planned by the publishers ahead of the release in December of An Unexpected Journey, the first of three Hobbit films.

Tolkien fans across the country are invited to stop at 11am sharp on September 21 and enjoy a Second Breakfast with friends. To get the party going, the publishers have provided a downloadable pack including recipes and colourful bunting.
