It Now Pays To Be Green

Discounted parking permits for low emission vehicles

From 1 September, people with electric, gas or hybrid vehicles, such as the Toyota Prius or the Honda Civic Hybrid will benefit from a discounted parking permit in the borough. The new scheme aims to encourage the growing trend of purchasing cleaner vehicles running on alternative fuels such as electric and gas as well as low emission hybrid vehicles.

The residents who would now be paying up to £100 for a standard parking permit will be able to pay a permit at half the price of £50. This in addition to the discount they receive in the Congestion Charge zone.

H&F Council is seeking to offer a 'carrot not stick' approach where eco friendly vehicles are rewarded.

Councillor Nick Botterill, cabinet member for environment, said "H&F Council is taking a sensible and pragmatic approach and letting their residents decide for themselves while providing an appropriate incentive for going green."
