West Kensington Fire Update:North End Road Reopens


Road still closed as chicken shop fire is brought under control

Transport for London says that North End Road has reopened at lunchtime on Tuesday, with 28 and 391 buses returned to their normal routes following a fire this morning in a chicken shop opposite West Kensington tube station.

London Fire Brigade said that two people were rescued from a flat above the Chicken Cottage opposite the tube station which went on fire on Tuesday morning.

At 10.45am the brigade tweeted: " Firefighters have rescued a man & woman from the flats above the #chickenshop in West #Kensington - both have minor smoke inhalation. "

The brigade also tweeted: " The fire started in the restaurant's ducting (ventilation system) #Restaurant owners be warned - greasy ducting is a fire risk!"

The Fire Brigade were called to the fire on North End Road at 9.50am.

The brigade tweeted @LondonFire at around 10.10am:
" There are now 6 fire engines, 30 firefighters at the #chickenshop fire on North End Road, West #Kensington. "

The closure of North End Road at the junction with Talgarth Road caused traffic queues between Hammersmith Flyover and Earls Court throughout Tuesday morning.
