One of Hammersmith's most famous sculptures, the Greek Runner in St Peter's Square has a sporty new look as he dons the official Sport Relief T-shirt, socks and wrist band - plus his very own Sport Relief Mile medal, which will be awarded to everyone who completes a Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 25th March.

The Greek Runner, created by Sir William Blake Richmond has been at the centre of the square since 1926 - but has never worn clothes before!

Cllr Greg Smith, cabinet member for residents' services for Hammersmith & Fulham Council, says: "The Greek Runner is a fantastic and appropriate statue to have chosen to dress in Sport Relief clothes and it is a novel way of increasing the awareness of the Sport Relief campaign in H&F, which is one of the sportiest boroughs in London."

Jess Kirke, Sport Relief Events Manager says: " Men, women and children all across London are really excited about entering the Mile so it’s great to see that the Greek Runner is fully behind the campaign too!

"We think he looks fantastic in his Sport Relief outfit although I don’t know how far he’ll get on the day!"

This year, over one million people are expected to pull up their Sport Relief socks and take part in the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile to raise vital funds for vulnerable people across the UK and the world’s poorest countries.
