W14 Post Office Opens This April

Local area has been without a PO counter for over a year

The new W14 post office will open at the end of April, Hammersmith & Fulham Council has announced.

When Das Sodha opens his North End Road shop, North End News, on April 30 he will become Olympia’s new sub-postmaster.

The post office counter inside Costcutter on North End Road closed in February last year, giving W14 the dubious honour of being the first postcode in London not to have a branch since postcodes were introduced in 1857.

600 local residents supported Sodha’s bid to bring the branch to his shop, which has now been fitted out with a new counter. The new sub-postmaster has been training for the new role and says he is looking forward to getting started.

"I can't wait," Sodha said. "It has been a long process with lots of checks and interviews but it is now all finalised. Everyone around here has wanted a post office for such a long time and it will be really good for the area to have it back.”

Councillor Paul Bristow, cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “It has been a long, hard fight to get to this stage but, with the backing of the council and customers and Mr Sodha’s determination, finally W14’s residents have their post office back. Mr Sodha is restoring a sorely missed, vital support service.”

With no nearby branch, W14 residents have had to to go Hammersmith or Shepherd's Bush for post office services.
