Old Laundry Yard Launches with 1950s Style Party
Disused site by Shepherd's Bush Market revived with entertainment and street food
Old Laundry Yard at Shepherd's Bush Market, which offers a range of street food traders along with a community space for workshops and events, is opening this Friday, 20 April with a party starting at midday and continuing until 10.30pm.
The launch party will be a 1950s-themed celebration with professional jive dancers, 50s roller skaters, stilt walkers and live music from rockabilly band Josie & the Outlaw.
Old Laundry Yard has been constructed in 72 shipping containers, on the site of a disused laundry next to the market.
Local traders there from the launch will include West-African street food stall, Jollof Mama (who'll be doing a 10% discount for opening week) and grilled cheese sandwich and skin on fries trader Pommes Fries. There'll also be a pop up Old Laundry Bar courtesy of WePop.
Local firm Maxine Cooks is also joining the yard with Maxine, pictured below serving up all natural vegetarian meals and healthy desserts.
The yard will be open from 11am to 8.30pm Sunday to Wednesday and 11am to 10.30pm Thursday to Saturday.
Shepherd's Bush Market's website says: "Join us for a sparkling mix of music, entertainment, street food, drinks and good times."
The scheme, from developers U+I plc is using existing containers on site for affordable co-working space to be made available to local start-ups, small businesses and arts groups.
The remaining space will be for food and beverage pop-up stalls and community space.
The Old Laundry Site sits between Shepherd's Bush Market and Pennard Road and has been unused for many years.
