New seafood restaurant Faber will officially open on October 10 at  206 – 208 Hammersmith Road, the corner site east of the Broadway which was formerly home to pizza restaurant Villagio.

The restaurant is the third in a “collection” of London venues run by Yummy Pubs Ltd, promising to serve fresh fish for all.

Plans for the new restaurant initially proved controversial as the site is next door to Sacred Heart High School and lawyers representing the Catholic girls’ school raised concerns about possible drunken behaviour and harrassment of students.

Despite these objections, Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee granted a licence to the company, and as pictures of the new venue show, Faber aims to be a sophisticated restaurant, with a menu which is created daily, depending on seasonality and which ingredients can be sourced sustainably.

Yummy Pubs founder Anthony Pender says: “ We’ve been running restaurants and pubs for over 17 years and one thing our little island should be proud of is its coastline. It has some of the best seafood in the world, with some of the best sustainable practices to boot.

“We wanted to create a welcoming, comfortable, and affordable experience to really showcase in London what we can bring from our local shores and waters.”

Faber, which will seat up to 60 people, will be open from midday till 11pm from Monday to Saturday and till 10pm on Sunday, and clearly intends to attract people working in surrounding offices with a special workers’ lunch priced from £20. Oysters, priced £2 each will also be served from Monday to Thursday between 4pm and 6pm.

This part of Hammersmith Road, east of the Broadway is fast becoming a favourite destination for local foodies. Across the street, office block  245 Hammersmith Road already hosts the popular Caribbean-inspired Turtle Bay,  and it will shortly be joined by Chinese restaurant Master Wei.

Master Wei, run by chef Guirong Wei, already has a successful restaurant in Bloomsbury serving Xi'an cuisine, including its signature beef or veggie Biangbiang noodles and regional street snacks.

Though the restaurant has not yet announced an opening date, Master Wei promises on both on its Instagram site and on its front windows that it is coming soon and activity inside indicates that preparations are well underway.

Coffee drinkers are also well catered for on this stretch, with independent cafes including The Lunch Box, serving Italian coffee and snacks at 134 Hammersmith Road, The Gentleman Baristas, open weekdays on the ground floor of 3 Shortlands and Store Street Expresso, open Monday to Friday within 245 Hammersmith Road, as well as busy branches of Caffe Nero  and Starbucks.
