Black History Month 2004


Gala ball focusing on images from the 16-20th Centuries.

The celebrations of the Black History Month starts in Hammersmith with a Inaugural Gala Ball on the 27th September. The Black British Heritage organised a spectacular theatrical fundraising event that will focus on past images from the 16th to 20th Century through a series of acts that will give an insight into life as it was then.

The objective of this event is firstly to support the displaced people of Northern Sudan, in East Africa, and secondly to further the knowledge of Black Heritage in the United Kingdom.

The acts will include:

  • A Theatrical show “History of Events” from the 16th century – 20th century
  • A Parade of past and present “Black Achievers” such as: Ignatius Sancho, Olaudah Equiano, Mary Seacole, Marcus Garvey and others
  • There will also be entertainment by African and Caribbean cultural dance groups
  • Caribbean food, refreshments, music and dancing till late.
  • Auction and Raffle of sensational prizes
