This week in Parliament, select committee members were elected. I am looking forward to beginning my work as Chair with the newly elected members of the Justice Select Committee from all parties.

On a local note, I recently visited West London College where it was great to meet both students and teachers. I was fascinated to see one of their new immersive classrooms which allows all three of their colleges to connect with each other. I was also shown the newly launched TASTE restaurant at the college and had the opportunity to meet students from the Hospitality and Catering course, ESOL Level 1 and from Preparation for Life and Work Inclusive Learning.

I also joined Hammersmith Community Gardens last week for their 40th anniversary celebration, we had lovely weather and it was great to chat to those involved.

Fulham Cross Academy and Fulham Cross Girls School are sending a group of 20 students and teachers to a rural area of Malawi next July to help build a community centre for disabled children. The students need to raise £2,300 each to pay for their travel and accommodation and the schools aim to raise a further £20,000 to build the community centre. Many of the students going on the trip come from Shepherd's Bush and Hammersmith and they would appreciate any support that can be offered through donations or publicising of their fundraiser. If you are interested in finding out more or donating, there is more information on their JustGiving page.

It may seem early to start talking about Christmas, but we are approaching that time of year and Age UK will be hosting their annual Carol Concert on Wednesday 11th of December in support of older people in Hammersmith and Fulham. The concert starts at 7pm at Holy Trinity Church (W6 7BL) and will feature a string quartet, a wonderful choir and beautiful Christmas carols. You can find out more information and purchase tickets here .

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
