The amazing illuminated “Hammersmith Express” is back at the entrance to the Broadway shopping centre.

The train, consisting of thousands of gold and silver lights and this year enhanced by the addition of two life sized toy soldiers, has become Hammersmith’s most popular Christmas attraction - and already, thousands of people have strolled through it, posted for festive photos or sneaked a kiss beneath the lights.

The train, along with the equally popular Christmas taxi outside Fulham Broadway shopping centre, was created by lighting installations specialist Field & Lawn, which says its teams are always working hard to create innovative festive displays.

The company says, “ The shopping centre connects the famous Piccadilly and District Line Tube stations, so our team installed a seven-metre-long walk-through festive feature.”

As in previous years, Field & Lawn has also created the decorations within the Broadway centre, which include a six-metre cone tree, light curtains and icicle lights, covering three voids, various columns and eight external trees.

The company says the Broadway presents logistical challenges due to limited access points and the constant flow of crowds, which means the decorations required meticulous planning and co-ordination.

However, looking back at last year’s decorations, it says, “ The collaboration between the installation team and the Hammersmith Shopping Centre resulted in a captivating and memorable festive lighting display.

“Overcoming challenges such as access limitations and crowded spaces, the team successfully delivered an enchanting display that welcomed visitors and enhanced their shopping experience during the holiday season.”

And judging by the crowds surrounding this year’s Christmas train, it appears the company has done it again in 2025
