Carolina Camara, who began Year 13 at Godolphin and Latymer this month, is continuing to grow the social enterprise she founded last year to support women entrepreneurs in indigenous communities in Mexico.

Navya Vision Ltd, established in 2025, provides zero-interest microloans and free business education to women in Oaxaca and the Yucatán Peninsula, helping them build sustainable livelihoods and long-term financial independence.

Camara has already formed strategic partnerships with Fundación En Vía and the Keeping Kids in School Project to expand Navya’s reach. The organisation is currently supporting 62 women, offering not only microfinance but also training in digital marketing, financial forecasting and English language skills to help business owners increase sales to tourists and international buyers.

Among the women Navya has assisted is Juanita Lorenzo Mendoza, a Zapotec embroidery weaver who used her loan to expand her workshop and open a comedor next door. Another is Dafne Lopez, founder of Artemisa, an e-commerce pottery and artisan crafts business that was recently selected — with Navya’s support — for the bilateral Mexico-Germany “Partnering in Business with Germany” programme sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

Carolina says her aim is to build a supportive community of enterprising women in indigenous regions where access to capital and business education has historically been limited. This summer she organised the Women Entrepreneurs Fair in Oaxaca during Guelaguetza, showcasing 44 women and attracting significant local attention. She has also launched a new funding programme for single mothers in Mexico, delivered in partnership with KKIS in Playa del Carmen.

Navya Vision has secured three corporate sponsors — SG Provo, Sweet Xile in Mexico and Mestizo Restaurant Group in London — and has raised close to £12,000 to date. Carolina also contributes to the organisation’s loan fund through teaching calligraphy, participating in live calligraphy events for fashion brands such as LVMH, and running sponsored 5K races in both the UK and Mexico.

The organisation is currently being considered for the IF Social Impact Prize, reflecting the growing recognition of Carolina’s work and Navya’s measurable impact.
