The UK Honours ceremony of the prestigious Newport Beach Film Festival was held earlier this month at the Londoner Hotel in Leicester Square.

This is a special event at which the festival celebrates the best of British and Irish acting talent.

In attendance were a host of star directors and actors including Bill Nighy, Paul Mescal, Kazuo Ishiguro and Micheal Ward from Top Boy and Empire of Light and Nicola Coughlan of Derry Girls.

The top award of Outstanding Achievement in British Cinema went to Living with Aimee Lou Wood also recognised in the Breakout category for her performance alongside Bill Nighy.

Hammersmith-born Leo Woodall was named as one of Variety’s Ten Brits to Watch after his memorable performance in the second series of The White Lotus.

He is now set to star in the upcoming series “One Day,” an adaptation of the acclaimed David Nicholls novel.

He wasn’t the only locally born performer to see success on the night with Toby Jones recognised as a Artist of Distinction for his roles in Empire of Light and The Wonder.

For 24 years, the Newport Beach Film Festival, one of the largest luxury lifestyle film festivals in the United States, has included a dedicated UK showcase during its eight-day program. In 2015, the Film Festival and Visit Newport Beach partnered to elevate the connection to the UK industry by honouring talent via the Newport Beach Film Festival UK Honours. This year’s event was the first in-person ceremony to be held by the event in London since the pandemic.
