Hammersmith resident Adam Wright runs for Marie Curie

Hammersmith resident, Mr Adam Wright, eagerly headed down to Greenwich for the London Marathon 2005 on Sunday 17 April 2005 to run in one of the World’s biggest and most popular charitable Marathon’s in support of Marie Curie Cancer Care. Adam joined thousands of amateur and professional runners who covered the miles around London and were cheered on by an enthusiastic crowd of around half a million people.

Adam is taking part in his first London Marathon since moving over from Australia. He is running in memory of his mother, who died of breast cancer in 2003 and to support the 140 Marie Curie Nurses who work in the Greater London area. Marie Curie Nurses provide high quality nursing, totally free, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their families.

Adam who won his place through his company Balfour Beatty is using the opportunity to fundraise for Marie Curie Cancer Care. He said “I chose to run for Marie Curie Cancer Care because they actively promote quality of life for people with cancer and provide support for their families. It’s a cause I believe in and if I can help, by raising money that’s fantastic. It also provides me with great motivation to train for and finish a great London event. I also have my own webpage www.justgiving.com/adam_wright that family, friends and individuals are donating to, so hopefully I’ll raise more than I expect”

A regular runner, Adam has trained himself into getting ready for this gruelling yet fun
Marathon : “At the moment I’m not following a strict training programme as such, more a case of trying to listen to my body and make sure I get the right mix of training and rest that I need to be ready for the big race day. Its hard work but I don’t mind doing it for a great cause.”

Adam finals plea to all readers and supporters out there is “Please get behind me and support a great cause. You will be impacting the lives of many and can make a difference with even a small donation. A marathon is not such a challenge compared to what some people deal with every day.
