Barons Court Theatre will host The Full English, a one-woman show written and performed by Melanie Branton, from 16 to 20 September.

The piece takes a playful look at the history and quirks of the English language, moving from Anglo-Saxon roots and Viking influences through to modern slang, social media, and contemporary culture. Blending performance poetry with humour, Branton explores why English spelling and grammar can be so inconsistent, and how the language continues to evolve.

A poet, spoken word artist, and former English lecturer, Branton has appeared at festivals such as Womad, Shindig and Valleyfest, and has represented Bristol at three national slam finals. She has also published three poetry collections, most recently The Full English (2023).

The show is recommended for adults but may also appeal to children aged nine and over.

Tickets are priced at £15 or £10 for concessions.

The Barons Court Theatre is below the Curtain's Up Pub at 28a Comeragh Road, W14 9HR.
