This week in Parliament, the Chancellor announced this government’s first Budget. The substantial boost to NHS funding is very good news. The Imperial College Healthcare Trust is ready to go with plans for Charing Cross, St Mary’s and Hammersmith hospitals and has welcomed the scheme-specific review that is currently underway. I am hopeful that the review will report in the next few weeks.
There hasn’t been a scheme specific announcement on Hammersmith Bridge, but I wouldn’t expect that at this stage. In October, we had a meeting between West London MPs and the Minister for Local Transport, and it won’t be long before we have a full taskforce meeting including local councils and TfL to discuss funding options.
Elsewhere in Parliament, the Justice Select Committee met for the first time, and it was great to have the opportunity to meet the recently elected committee members. I am looking forward to working with them in the coming weeks to discuss and decide the agenda for the committee.
More locally, a couple of weeks ago I was delighted to be invited to the Hammersmith and Fulham Law Centre Awayday at Ravenscourt Park Glasshouses as a guest speaker. I have attended the Law Centre Awaydays for more than 20 years as a trustee and it is great to see it thriving even in hard times.
I was very glad to be able to make it to a recent Hammersmith and Fulham Council meeting, where warm tributes were paid to both Charlie Treloggan and Gerald Wombwell who have sadly died. Both outstanding public servants, Charlie was a former Mayor of LBHF and my co-councillor in West Ken for eight years and Gerald led the Conservatives when I was council leader.
UK Parliament Week (UKPW) is coming up between the 18th-24th of November and lots of schools in the constituency have signed up already.
UKPW is an annual event which aims to spread the word about what Parliament is, what it does and how you can get involved. If you would like to sign up to receive kit of resources to learn about Parliament you can find out more information here.
Additionally, my office is always happy to arrange tours of Parliament for local schools and we currently have several schools lined up for visits.
