Spring is finally here, and I hope everyone has been enjoying the lighter evenings and the sunshine we’ve had in the past week.

My week in Parliament began with meetings relating to my role as Chair of the Justice Select Committee. I met with the Chair of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives – a professional body for CILEX lawyers and paralegals – to discuss priorities for the JSC and hear more about their perspective on issues in the legal profession.

There were lots of events happening in Parliament last week - I attended a drop-in event hosted by the British Beer and Pub Association where I had the pleasure of meeting local publicans, and I was invited to the 50th anniversary parliamentary reception of Solace Women’s Aid.

Recently I spoke in the debate on St Patrick's day and used this opportunity to talk about the Irish community in Hammersmith and particularly the wonderful Irish Cultural Centre, which continues to go from strength to strength. As always, you can see all of my recent contributions in Parliament here.

I was delighted to hear that pupils at Latymer Prep School came second in the regional heat and Larmenier & Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School won the top primary school prize at the National Reading Champions Quiz run by the National Literacy Trust. Congratulations to all those involved!

There is some great news from local charity Hammersmith & Fulham Mencap. HF Mencap, a leading local charity dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, is delighted to announce it has been awarded £75,000 to fund its Youth Development Programme (YDP) over the next three years from The Julia Rausing Trust.

This vital funding will enable HF Mencap to expand its bespoke Youth Development Programme, providing young people with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to thrive. The initiative will directly benefit hundreds of young people, promoting greater independence, inclusion, and community cohesion.

"We are thrilled to receive this funding, which will allow us to empower young people with learning disabilities and autism. Through tailored support, creative opportunities, and skills development, we are building a more inclusive and successful community," - Tim Balogun, CEO of HF Mencap.

The Youth Development Programme will focus on key areas such as employability, communication skills, creativity, and social inclusion, ensuring that young people with disabilities can fully participate in society. The initiative aligns with HF Mencap’s commitment to creating a fairer and more inclusive future for all.

For more information about HF Mencap and its work, visit www.hfmencap.org or contact Tim Balogun: tim.balogun@hfmencap.org.

And a final note, calling anyone who is a former member of The Sulgrave Youth Club in Hammersmith. The club will be celebrating its 100th anniversary next year. And as part of the celebrations, the club is collecting memorabilia and personal recollections to build an archive to reflect the Sulgrave Club's work with young people through its 100 years of history.

If you are a former member and have memories or memorabilia of your time at the club, then your help would be very much welcome. You can get in touch at centenary@thesulgraveclub.org.uk.

Best,

Andy

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
