A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Berkan Demir at a residential address on Lena Gardens last weekend.
Ahmed Said, who resides on the road where the death took place, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court at 10am on Thursday 19 March. He was initially taken to hospital with stab wounds following the incident but was later arrested on suspicion of murder. He has now been charged.
Police were called to Lena Gardens, which is off Shepherd’s Bush Road, at 5.58pm on Sunday 15 March after reports of a stabbing. Officers arrived with the London Ambulance Service and found two men injured inside the address. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the younger man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have asked for privacy.
A post-mortem examination carried out on Tuesday 17 March confirmed that Mr Demir died from sharp-force trauma to the left side of the neck.
Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command continue to lead the investigation. Officers have been conducting door-to-door enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Police believe the two men were known to each other and say there is no wider risk to the public.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 quoting reference 5093/15MAR. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
