King Street's Livat has launched a Community Garden in Ashcroft Square, the raised courtyard off the first floor of the shopping centre, and is inviting the community to join in and help improve this valuable open space.

From now until October this year, the first phase of the new Livat Community Garden will include workshops on Thursdays and Saturdays, with expert gardeners on hand to help green-fingered residents grow herbs and vegetables in the square’s yellow planters.

The courtyard has had a massive makeover recently, funded jointly by the Ingka Group, owners of IKEA and H&F Council, with the surface replaced and features such as the planters and seating areas installed.

Now there are plans for further improvements, with the help of local people. Livat says everyone is welcome to join in, regardless of their gardening skills – from individuals who simply enjoy attending a single session, to those who wish to regularly contribute to the garden, and actively influence its future.

The August workshops and sessions, all taking place from 10.30am to 1pm, are on:
