Hammersmith is getting ready to throw its biggest street party of the summer as King Street and Lyric Square transform into a day-long celebration of music, food, colour and community on Saturday 20 June. Running from 10am to 6pm, the Hammersmith Summer Market returns with more than 100 stalls, three live music stages, roaming performers and a Pride-themed disco twist that promises to keep the whole neighbourhood moving.
At its heart, the market is a showcase for the small businesses and independent makers who give west London its character. Shoppers can browse everything from handcrafted jewellery by Yiola Georgiou to scented candles from Silently Healing, alongside treats for four-legged friends from Monti & Mel Pet Boutique. The emphasis is firmly on local talent and traders you won’t usually find on the high street.
Food and drink will spill across the festival route, with stalls serving fresh pasta from Crazy For Pasta, plant-based brews from HumaniTea, and Middle Eastern specialities from Hayber Restaurant.
Music is woven through the day, with three stages hosting a lively mix of performers. Young punk rockers The Whops Band bring raw energy, while soul singer Kaiya Maxfield — who has shared stages with Aretha Franklin, Eddie Floyd and James Brown — adds a touch of star power. Over in Unity Square, jazz, blues and swing take over for a four-hour session led by Bunny Nightingale and Chris Harvey, creating a mellow pocket of rhythm amid the bustle.
Pride Month is front and centre too. Drag queen Kardeizure will light up the main stage with her trademark glamour and high-voltage performance style, while a drag-hosted silent disco walking tour sets off from Bradmore Square. Expect pop anthems, camp classics and easy-to-follow dance moves — all delivered through headphones so the party travels with you. Sponsored by Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre and Hammersmith BID, the tour offers 50 free tickets for H&F residents, available via Eventbrite.
Families will find plenty to enjoy as well. Roaming entertainers — from stilt-walking butterflies to Bridie, the towering tea lady — will weave through the crowds, while two mischievous “dancing grannies” promise to be one of the day’s most photographed sights. Free children’s activities add another layer of fun for younger visitors.
